You need the leadership feat to have a cohort.

You get a planar cohort as a 5th level Thaumaturgist, it doesn't mention that you have to have the leadership feat. In fact it states that *if* you have a cohort through the leadership feat, then the planar cohort replaces it, which implies to me that leadership is not necessary. (A planar cohort replaces a thaumaturgist’s existing cohort, if he has one by virtue of the Leadership feat.)

At a glance your gear looks more powerful than what Ted Hopkins has and he only has ~70 k left to spend.

With regards to the gear, Osred has two craft feats. Only the items for which he meets the creation pre-requisites have been bought at half price. I emailed Hannele with the items and total cost, and also to ask how this should be handled with regards to XP cost.
