Hera

Goddess of Farming

Description

Hera is the goddess of farming. Her divine portfolio covers the natural elements required by both agrarian farmers and nomadic drovers and she is usually the patron deity most favoured amongst such societies. She also has some followers amongst hunter-gatherers. She is commonly depicted smiling benevolently, holding a bushel of grain in one arm and an upright scythe in the other, with a rayed sun picked out behind her.

Hera is closely allied to:

• Obad-Hai: Hera shares some aspects of her portfolio with Obad-Hai, but is more concerned with humanoid activities than the strictly natural cycle covered by the earth god.
  
• Waukeen: The fortunes of the market and market economy are essential for the prosperity of Hera's followers.
