As they continue along the path, the light level drops due to the canopy, but Linden and Andrei manage to spot someone moving towards them. It is only when he removes his hood that the Ranger they had met earlier is revealed.
He has been sent by Master Ki and brings dire news of the Druid camp being attacked and of strange shadowy forms roaming the vicinity. He cannot linger and soon departs.
Moving on South Andrei scouts ahead and reports undead further ahead. As he and Mary lead, the group see a lone Ranger rushing into combat with something that on Mary can see at first. She lets fly with a single arrow, shreading a little shadowyness from one of the beings. Mardram, unable to make out the shapes calls for some backup while Andrei tries to get a better position. The shapes attack the Ranger and Mary, draining their strength with every touch. Linden tries a crossbow shot to little effect while Mardrams summoned Lantern Archon and he attack with beams of light.
Andrei stands to his feet and brandishing the symbol of Makash demands that the creatures flee with such conviction that one of them backs off.
The remaining shadow is draining the life from the Ranger as everyone concentrates their attacks on it. Regaining it senses, the fleeing shadow returns to the fray with a thankfully weak attack on Linden. The Ranger gathers what strength he has and attacks the Shadow just before Linden dispatched it to whence it came.
The remaining Shadow swoops in on its deceiver with wrath and almost succeeds in its aims. Unwilling to risk hitting his visibly weakened friend, Mardram channels the Positive Energy of the Universe into damaging the beast, for which it turns its attention on him. Before it can do much damage however, Linden and the Ranger manage to kill it.
With the Ranger to guide them, they all reach the camp and meet Jiet Ki whom they had previously met. As they discuss the battle, a great commotion is heard and a huge vortex is seen lifting enemies into the sky and dropping them.
The vortex heads into camp and reveals itself to be Master Cedarleaf! Cedarleaf takes them on a tour of the camp, where many many wounded can be seen receiving attention. Seeing their plight, Mardram offers his assistance with healing. He starts with restoring the strength of the Mary, Andrei and the Ranger who assisted them, however soon moves on to healing people by the dozen using the same powers he attacked the shadows with. Drawing upon all of his abilities, he finally transforms into a Golden-White fire elemental and sweeps through the injured, healing as he goes.
Master CedarLeaf is stunned by the powers and sweeps him up in his Air Elemental form, radiating the positive energy around the valley. As they return to their humanoid forms the druid collapses, exhausted and Kiet Ki and Linden ponder the apparent blending of Druidic and Divine magic...
