Iorek is almost never seen outside his armour, a formidable construction of adamantine. Together with his shield, as tall and broad as he is, it stops almost any blow. His full name is Iorek Gurnisson - dwarf males take a patronymic; females take a matronym - so Iorek's mother was Ingri Kotrisdottir, for example. The names "Hansson" and "Hansdottir" mean "fatherless" and "motherless" respectively. Both are viewed as a mark of deep shame.
