Meeting at Craig's in Darwen, 28th-31st of March

  • It was all a lot of fun.

Travel

Flights booked - Arrive at Liverpool on Friday 09.05, depart Monday at 17.45 - Bert

My flight arrives at Liverpool on Friday 12.15, and I leave Monday at 19.15 - Hannele

Can you two arrange what you want to do about transport. It's a hundred mile round trip to Liverpool Airport and back, so I'm not making two trips. Bert if you're happy to hang around I'll pick you up together, but a better suggestion might be for you both to catch the coach to Manchester where Bert will have something to do, and I can pick you both up at the same time. There's a car park right by the coach station where you arrive, so I can maybe meet Bert, grab some lunch in Chinatown and wait for Hannele at about 1pm.
I hadn't actually realised how far it was! Maybe you just drive too quickly :P Would you be ok with Craigs idea H? Craig - The coach drops at Sackville St. or Shudehill Interchange so which would be best? Bert
I'm fine with the suggestion. Bert: could you point me to the URL to buy my e-ticket for the coach? And who knows: easyJet might yet decide to put me on the early flight. I'll text one or both of you when we reach our destination. Hannele
If you click the link on the [Liverpool Airport] site and it'll set the destination for you. You just need to pick One way and the dates. Bert
It's probably more like 90 miles, and I mentioned it last time :P Sackville Street is where I meant. It's right by Chinatown and there's a car park above the coach station.
You know what? I probably said the same thing last time :) Bert

David and I are coming by car; we'll be arriving around 1600h on Friday and leaving Monday a.m. - Henry

Shopping

I'll probably get the shopping on the way back from picking up Bert and Hannele.
Usually the shopping bill is split between the 5 of us. Let me know if you're unhappy with this.
Can you let me know of anything that you would like by adding it to the shopping_list please.

Planned Activities

Friday

I could run a game but would prefer to play instead. Perhaps someone who hasn't DMed before could try a short game? Bert? -- David

Hmm I'll think about it. Does anyone know of a good source of pre-made adventures?-- Bert
You could try here http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b for some premade ones (I have read "A dark and Stormy Knight", which seemed reasonable - but is obviously spoiled for me). Not sure of the quality of the rest. Or you can try to build something around the things here http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/vv -- Craig
I, too, have read "Dark and Stormy Knight". It seemed entertaining enough; there's always going to be good ones and bad ones. As a first-time DM, particularly for a short session, you may find it easier to run a "kick in the door" style game than a roleplay-heavy "talk the politics" game. As for level, IMO low-level games are easier rules-wise, and faster, but there's something satisfying about being of a high-enough level to take things down hard. -- Henry
Ok, I'll do it. I've narrowed it down to 3 from the first link that Craig specified. If you read any of them please let me know, and if you haven't then DONT! :) Bert

Level 1 D&D - Bert as DM (Be nice!)

Same rules as detailed for Craigs game

Characters

Player Character Class Race
Craig Mardek Knight Dwarf
David ?? Wizard Human
Hannele ?? Cleric Dwarf
Henry Torquil Rogue Dwarf
Henry, I'm not giving anything away, but how would Parax feel about killing his own species... Bert
Well, maybe he'll move to the other game... Henry
... and become a rogue... just seemed like a more interesting character that way. If someone else has a burning need to play a rogue, let me know and I'll rework Torquil.
Just as long as he's not evil, I'm happy. -- Craig
What rolls?
Same as normal - see Craigs rules as I'm too lazy... -- Bert
Whats with all the Dwarfs??
Dwarfs are way cool! -- Hannele
The Samurai and the Knight are very similar. I think that one of us will need to change. -- Craig
Two tanks are better than none! I really want to play a dwarven samurai and this is the dwarven game (plus: the other game could really use an arcane spellcaster) I wouldn't bother changing either of our characters, it's the way we play them that counts. -- Hannele
I'll change - two full on fighters does not make for a balanced party. We're supposed to be taking it easy on Bert. -- Craig 21:36, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
No need to change, Craig, I'll play a cleric.
I would suggest only using stuff from the core rule books. As a DM there's enough going on that you don't really need players throwing about special abilities that you've never heard of. However, since a 1st level samurai is just a fighter who took Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword) it doesn't really matter in this case. -- David

Saturday

Level 3 D&D game - Craig as DM

A new adventure that I want to continue at a later date.
If you've read the Dungeon master for Dummies book - let me know!! My planned adventures are in there.

  • 3.5 rules - Alternative Base classes are OK. Don't go too OTT though, I'm not an experienced DM.
  • Swift and Immediate actions allowed.
  • No psionics
  • Stats - 4d6 take highest 3 - I'm sure that I can trust you all to do this on your own.
  • No evil characters
  • House rules - Quick potions; No XP cost for spells or item creation

Characters

Player Character Class Race
Bert ?? Favoured Soul Half elf
David Wolder? Ranger Wood elf
Hannele ?? Sorcerer Human
Henry Parax Rogue Kobold
Two rogues Henry? -- Craig
So the guy likes rogues, who doesn't? -- Hannele
It's more that I'm currently playing a fighter, a wizard, a warblade and a swordsage, and I've never been able to fancy playing a cleric. These guys were the ideas near the top of the pile! Also: whee, I've finished my character sheet for Parax! (Assuming 900 gold total, which is IIRC the DMG guide for 3rd level).

Sunday

Late morning suggestion

  • A nice walk up the hill to the tower (takes less than an hour, but is relatively steep) -- Craig

Afternoon suggestions

  • Ten-pin Bowling?
  • Bring a laptop for Half-Life/Counter Strike deathmatches? Or a multi-player NWN/BG2 game?
It's only a suggestion - we can do plenty of other things
I have a laptop and a desktop that we can do this on so we'd only need 3 more.
I have a wired hub, or wireless.
The original Half-Life can be installed on multiple machines :-O (and I have it) -- Craig
I don't have a laptop. -- David
I do have a laptop; it's a Vista beast and the wireless can be finicky at times. I don't have either HL or CS, so would need to do some quick cheeky installing... -- Henry
I´ll bring my laptop plus NWN and BG2. -- Hannele

Evening Suggestions

  • Are we mad enough to attempt another game of OOTS?
  • More D&D??
